Former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai may soon get a big responsibility in the party. He can be promoted to the post of BJP General Secretary. Sources associated with the party said that after the selection of BJP President next month, Annamalai will be announced.
“In April, when Annamalai left the Tamil Nadu BJP President’s post, he was assured that he would be given a big post in the party. After his post, MLA Nanar Nagantharan has been made the head of the BJP in the state. However, in the last Lok Sabha election, even though the BJP has not got a single seat in Tamil Nadu, but its vote percentage has increased from three percent to 11 percent and its credit goes on.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has made it clear on several occasions that Annamalai will also play an important role in state politics, while he will be given important responsibility at the national level as well. However, Annamalai was made a member of the BJP’s National Council the next day after leaving the post of Tamil Nadu BJP Chief.
Recently, Annamalai reiterated the party’s commitment to the AIADMK alliance in Tamil Nadu and cited the statement of Union Home Minister Amit Shah that the BJP would be part of the government if the coalition comes to power. Talking to the media, K Annamalai said, “… Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said many times that the BJP will be part of the government… Alliance (with AIADMK) should continue.”
Annamalai emphasized the assurance of Amit Shah in which he assured both parties to create a minimum shared program, which aims to defeat the DMK in the 2026 assembly elections. He further said, “The Union Home Minister has also said that we will have a minimum shared program which will be acceptable to both parties.”
