China’s ‘Water Bomb’: Is the new dam a danger bell for India?

New Delhi
China has started building a new dam on the Indian border. This dam is being built on the Brahmaputra in Tibet. The Chinese Council has given information about this dam on its website. It will be the largest dam in the world after being ready. This act of China has deepened the lines of concern on the forehead. There are many reasons behind this. Actually, it is not a dam, but a water bomb of China, which it can use against India. Apart from this, the location of this dam is such that it is very important for India. Apart from this, there is also a risk of earthquake due to collision of tactonic plates on this location.

Close to Indian border
China is building this dam near the Indian border. Chinese Prime Minister Lee Qing has announced the construction of this dam. The dam is being built in the lower region of the Brahmaputra River in the city of Ningchi, China. The dam will be built on a huge valley in the Himalayan ranges. At this place, the Brahmaputra river enters Arunachal Pradesh and then Bangladesh with a huge ‘U-turn’. The Brahmaputra River is known as Sangpo in China. The river originates from Jima Yangzong Glacier near Mount Kailash in southwest Tibet. Its length is 1,700 km. It reaches the Siang River of Arunachal Pradesh in India, then Brahmaputra in Assam and later Bangladesh.

Why worry for India
Concerns arose in India that due to the size and scale of the dam, China will not only get the right to control the water flow, but it will also help Beijing to release a large amount of water to bring floods in the border areas during the war. In 2020, an Australian think tank published the report. According to this, China can control India by controlling the rivers of Tibet’s plateau.

This is so cost
The dam is being constructed at a cost of $ 167.8 billion. Five hydropower stations will be built here. The hydropower station built here is expected to generate more than 300 billion kWh hours every year. This will benefit about 30 crore people in China. Till now, China was built on the Yangjti River, where the most power is generated.

What is the preparation of india
India is also building a dam on the Brahmaputra River in Arunachal Pradesh. India and China created a specialist level mechanism (ELM) in 2006 to discuss various issues related to across the border rivers. Under which China provides India during the flood season on the Brahmaputra River and Sutlej River. But after this dam is built, it will be a matter to be seen.
