Ahead of the first Test match against South Africa, Team India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, paid a visit to the renowned Kalighat Mandir in Kolkata to offer his prayers.

Team’s Practice Session at Eden Gardens

The Indian cricket team commenced their practice on Tuesday in preparation for the two-match Test series against South Africa, with the first match set to take place at Eden Gardens. Key players including skipper Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, Sai Sudharsan, Ravindra Jadeja, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Washington Sundar, and Nitish Kumar Reddy participated in the training. During the session, Shubman Gill was seen discussing strategies with head coach Gautam Gambhir. Jaiswal and Gill engaged in throwdowns in the nets, while Jadeja, Bumrah, Sudharsan, and Reddy practiced their catching skills.

Overview of the Series and Recent Performances

Under the leadership of Shubman Gill, India enters this home series following an away tour in England and a home series against the West Indies. South Africa, captained by Temba Bavuma, arrives after a 1-1 draw in their recent two-Test series against Pakistan. India’s recent Test performances have been commendable, highlighted by a 2-2 draw against England earlier this month, where Shubman Gill emerged as the top scorer with 754 runs at an impressive average of 75.40, including four centuries. This was followed by a dominant 2-0 victory over the West Indies at home last month.

Upcoming Matches

Following the first Test in Kolkata, the series will proceed to Guwahati, where the second Test is scheduled to be held at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium starting November 22.
