New Delhi
The defense capabilities of the Indian Army have been further strengthened. The first batch of Boeing AH-64E Apache attack helicopters from the US was handed over to India today. These state -of -the -art war helicopters will be deployed in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, which will take the strategic power of the Indian Army to new heights. This achievement is considered a ‘milestone’ in the defense sector, as these helicopters will provide unprecedented strength and accuracy to the army in the battlefield. Officials said the US aerospace giant ‘Boeing’ handed over three Apache fighter helicopters to the Indian Army on Tuesday. AH-64 Apache is one of the world’s most advanced multipurpose fighter helicopters and also blows the US Army.
Increase in military’s firepower
These helicopters are the first batch of six Apache helicopters purchased for the Indian Army. Let us know that helicopters are part of a deal of Rs 5,691 crore. They will be deployed in Jodhpur, where the army raised its first Apache squadron about 15 months ago. Army officials confirmed, “The first Apache attack helicopters purchased for the Indian Army have reached India. They will be posted in Jodhpur.” The delivery of the remaining three helicopters is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
The Apache AH-64e Guardian is called the “sky tank”, as it is equipped with techniques such as fatal firepower, long-distance campaign and network-centric warfare. This helicopter is specially designed for campaigns where the enemy’s position is challenging. It has an advanced night vision, the ability to target and the best navigation systems in every season, which makes it extremely effective for any attack or defense campaign. The deployment of Apache helicopters in the army is also considered a major strategic edge in joint operations with the Air Force. The Indian Air Force is already running two squadron Apache- one in Pathankot and the other in Jorhat, Assam.
Delay in delivery
The delay in this delivery was due to obstacles in the global supply chain and the changing geopolitical conditions. These helicopters were scheduled to come to India by May 2024, but delivery delayed. The purchase of these helicopters was signed during the year 2020 during the visit of the US President Donald Trump to India, with a total price of about $ 600 million (Rs 5,691 crore). It is worth noting that earlier in 2015, the Government of India had signed a separate agreement for the purchase of 22 Apache helicopters for the Indian Air Force, which was completed by mid -2020. With the deployment of these new Apache helicopters, the attacker power and coordinated war capacity of the Indian Army will get new force, especially on the western and northern borders.
