Gaud Expresses Gratitude to Madhya Pradesh Government
Kranti Gaud, a member of the victorious Indian Women’s Cricket Team, conveyed her heartfelt thanks to the Madhya Pradesh government and Chief Minister Mohan Yadav during a recent celebration event. She acknowledged the support extended to her and her family following India’s historic win. ‘I am grateful to the Chief Minister. When I met him post-World Cup victory, he dedicated a significant amount of time to me, my parents, and my coach, showing respect to everyone involved. I also appreciate the Madhya Pradesh government for awarding me a cash prize of Rs one crore,’ she stated.
Significant Growth in Women’s Cricket Support
Reflecting on the evolution of women’s cricket in India, Gaud noted that just a few years ago, the audience was minimal, but now matches are consistently sold out. ‘There has been a remarkable transformation in the support we receive. The crowd passionately cheers for India,’ she remarked.
India’s Landmark World Cup Victory
Gaud played a pivotal role in the tournament, taking nine wickets across eight matches and effectively applying pressure during the powerplay, which set the stage for India’s successful campaign. After two previous near misses in the finals of 2005 and 2017, India finally clinched the ICC Women’s World Cup title by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in a commanding performance earlier this month. Key contributions came from Shafali Sharma, who scored 87 runs and took 2 wickets for 36 runs, and Deepti Sharma, who scored 58 runs and took 5 wickets for 39 runs.
With this victory, India joined the ranks of Australia, England, and New Zealand as ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup champions, achieving this milestone for the first time on home soil.
