As South Africa prepares for their first ODI against India, batting coach Ashwell Prince has praised wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton De Kock for his exceptional skills. He emphasized De Kock’s potential to influence crucial matches, akin to the impact Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have on the Indian side.
The opening match of the three-match ODI series is set to take place at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi on Sunday. This series follows India’s disappointing 2-0 loss to South Africa, where the Indian team faced challenges in both batting and bowling departments. De Kock, who made a notable return to international cricket after initially retiring post the 2023 World Cup, has rejoined the South African squad and recently excelled in Pakistan, amassing 239 runs in three matches with an impressive average of 119.5.

Prince remarked, “Quinton De Kock is a significant addition to our team. Just as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli enhance the Indian lineup, De Kock brings a similar level of experience and quality to our squad, as demonstrated during our series in Pakistan.”

According to Prince, De Kock’s presence has been invaluable for South Africa’s younger players, particularly left-handed batsmen. His wealth of experience has fostered their development both on and off the field. “His presence has certainly uplifted the dressing room atmosphere. We have several young left-handers and players in the team, and having the opportunity to engage in conversations with him and bat alongside him significantly contributes to their growth,” he stated.

De Kock stands out as one of the most seasoned players in the South African squad, having accumulated 7009 runs in 158 ODIs at an average of 46.72. He ranks as the fifth-highest run-scorer for his country in this format, boasting 22 centuries and 32 fifties.
