At least 221 people died and 592 others were injured in sudden floods and other incidents caused by heavy monsoon rains in Pakistan since the end of June. This information has been given by the Disaster Management Authority of Pakistan. In the latest status report, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said the number of casualties was recorded between 26 June to 21 July, with five new deaths and 10 injuries in the last 24 hours.
East Punjab province was the most affected, where 135 people died and 470 were injured. In the north-western province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 46 people died and 69 others were injured.
In southern Sindh province, 22 people are reported dead and 40 injured, while in the south-western province of Balochistan, 16 people are reported dead and four injured. The NDMA has confirmed that a child was injured in Islamabad Rajdhani region. Officials have issued a flood warning. They are coordinating with the provincial governments to conduct relief operations and monitor sensitive areas amidst the continuous rains.
Because the monsoon outbreak continues in Pakistan, the authorities have issued several alerts. These include heavy rains, rising water levels of rivers and possible floods in sensitive areas.
Pakistan’s NDMA and Punjab’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) have urged the residents to be vigilant and stay away from the lower and submerged areas. Explain that intense monsoon activity due to moisture coming from the Arabian Sea remains active throughout Punjab, where intermittent rains in Lahore have increased the level of humidity.
