Bihar Assembly Election Results Update
Tejashwi Yadav, the leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Opposition’s candidate for Chief Minister, was maintaining a slim lead in the Raghopur constituency as the counting of votes for the Bihar Assembly elections progressed on Friday.
As of 1:05 PM, Yadav was ahead of his Bharatiya Janata Party opponent, Satish Kumar, by a margin of 585 votes, with Yadav receiving 31,654 votes compared to Kumar’s 31,069.
This count followed the completion of eight out of thirty rounds of vote tallying.
Earlier, Yadav expressed optimism about the Opposition alliance achieving a “people’s victory,” stating, “Change will come. We are forming the government.”
Meanwhile, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance was reportedly leading in nearly 200 of the 243 seats by 1 PM, outpacing the Opposition Mahagathbandhan.
The Raghopur seat has been a stronghold for the RJD since it was first won by Lalu Prasad, Tejashwi Yadav’s father, in 1995, with the exception of a period from 2010 to 2015 when it was held by the Janata Dal (United) under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Tejashwi Yadav has represented this constituency since 2015.
The RJD is part of the Mahagathbandhan alliance, which includes the Congress, Vikassheel Insaan Party, and three Left parties: the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation, the Communist Party of India, and the Communist Party of India (Marxist), along with the Indian Inclusive Party.
In contrast, the ruling National Democratic Alliance consists of the JD(U), BJP, Chirag Paswan’s faction of the Lok Janshakti Party, the Rashtriya Lok Morcha, and the Hindustani Awam Morcha.
Additionally, Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj, which is not affiliated with either major alliance, is participating in its first electoral contest.
The Mahagathbandhan’s manifesto includes a commitment to enact a law that guarantees a government job for one family member within 20 days of taking office, as well as a promise to pause the Waqf Amendment Act.
