New Delhi
The monsoon session of Parliament starts today. Both the government and the opposition have prepared their respective agendas. There is also a possibility of bringing impeachment proposal against Justice Yashwant Verma in this session. However, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiran Rijiju has not given any clear answer to this. He said that until the Business Advisory Committee passes the issue and the chair is not approved, it is not possible to make any announcement in this case. He also said that MPs are being signed about impeachment. More than 100 members have signed it.
Justice Yashwant Verma is currently working in the Allahabad High Court. However, he has not been assigned any judicial work. During the judge in the Delhi High Court, bundles of notes were found from his residence. Earlier, Rijiju had said on Friday that all political parties are unanimous on the issue of impeachment against Justice Yashwant Verma. Burned bundles of notes were recovered from Justice Verma’s residence.
He has been convicted in the internal investigation on the orders of the then Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna. Justice Verma has denied being involved in any wrongdoing, but the Supreme International inquiry committee concluded that the judge and his family members had a secret or active control over the store room where cash was found. This proves that the matter is serious and they should be removed.
On Friday, Rijiju had also said that he had spoken to all senior leaders of various political parties. I will also contact some parties with the only MP, because I do not want to ignore any member. So that it comes out as a joint opinion of the Indian Parliament. The Union Minister insisted that the initiative to bring a proposal to remove Justice Verma is not of the government, but MPs of various political parties, including Congress MPs.
He said, ‘Corruption in the judiciary is a very sensitive and serious matter, because the judiciary is the place where people get justice. If there is corruption in the judiciary, it is a matter of serious concern for everyone. For this reason, the proposal to remove Justice Yashwant Verma will be signed by all political parties.
