New efforts to end the long -running war between Ukraine and Russia are going to start again. Ukraine’s President Wloadimir Zelansky said that Rustom Umrov, the head of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, has been confirmed that the next round of peace talks will take place in Türkiye on Wednesday. Jailonsky said in his video message, “Today I discussed the preparation of the inmates with my prominent leader Rustom Umrov and the meeting in Turkey with the Russian side. Umrov said that the meeting is scheduled on Wednesday, and the rest will be given tomorrow.”

Rustom Umrov has recently been appointed as Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council. Prior to this, he has been the Defense Minister of the country and has also led the peace talks of the first two rounds with Russia. In his diplomat meeting in Kiev, Zelancesi clearly stated that “We have to accelerate the talks to end the war. Our agenda is very clear, return of prisoners, homecoming of children abducted by Russia and direct meeting of leaders.” Kremlin has said that he is waiting for the date of talks to agree, but the two sides are still quite different from each other on how to end the war.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had earlier rejected Jailonsky’s proposal to meet face to face. Putin says that he does not consider Zelansky as the right leader because Ukraine did not conduct a new election after the end of his tenure. Ukraine and Russia held two rounds of talks in Istanbul on 16 May and 2 June this year. This was followed by the exchange of bodies of thousands of prisoners and dead soldiers. However, there is no concrete result yet regarding the ceasefire or peace agreement. Meanwhile, former US President Donald Trump has warned that if there was no agreement, it will impose new strict restrictions on Russia and its oil-gas purchasing countries within 50 days.
