Japan
Japan has recently set a historical record in terms of internet speed. Scientists of Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communication Technology (NICT) have shocked everyone by testing the world’s fastest internet speed so far. Scientists have set a new record by transferring internet data at a speed of 1.02 petabits i.e. about 1,27,500 GBPS. This speed is about 3 million times higher than the speed of the US average home broadband. This success has been possible through a special optical fiber technology, which can bring a big change in the internet world in future.
However, despite acquiring such a fast internet, Japan’s name is not currently included in the list of countries which are at the forefront of internet service speed. According to the recent report of Speedtest Global Index, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) tops the mobile internet speed, where the average mobile internet speed is 546.14 Mbps. At the same time, Talking about home broadband internet, Singapore is in the first place, where the average speed is 393.15 Mbps. Countries like India, America, China, Japan and South Korea are among the most internet using countries in the world, but these countries are still behind in terms of average internet speed.
What is the status of India?
Looking at the status of India, the country has secured 26th position in mobile internet speed and the average speed is 133.51 Mbps. But India is quite backward in terms of home broadband speed and ranks 98th, where the average broadband speed is only 59.51 Mbps. Interestingly, India is also behind Nepal in this matter. Nepal is ranked 88th and the average broadband speed there has been recorded at 77.90 Mbps. This situation is an indication for India’s telecom sector that there is still a lot of work to improve broadband infrastructure and speed.
